We went to an organ concert at St.
Stephen’s Cathedral . There we listened to a surprisingly, and somewhat
disappointingly modern, organ concert in the over-the –top Baroque
surroundings.
Despite the less than classical
renditions the magnificence of the pipe organ could not be denied. The organ
consists of 17,974 organ pipes, 233 stops and four carillons. The five parts of
the organ can be played from the main keyboard, one at a time, or all together.
The echo affect must be taken into consideration when playing this magnificent
organ and so there are ‘spirit holes’ in the ceiling to accommodate such. I
loved the idea of the ‘spirit holes’ and, regardless of their technical usage,
loved the idea of the spirit reigning down upon the audience.
