Passau (Part 4)


Again, I took pictures of doors – they spoke to me. One was of a door with the depiction of Jesus at the door – very ornate and intricately carved. It was simply a door into a suite of apartments. Another door was representative of a yearly tradition. Every year at the New Year, children go about a mark doors in chalk with C + M + B and the new year.  The initials stand for the names of the three Wise Men: Caspar, Melchior, and Balthasar.  The markings are left all year and are meant to bring good luck and blessings to the houses that are marked.
